Fire resistance of maritime structural thermoplastic composite sandwich panels

Summary

The maritime defense sector requires lightweight, durable, and fire-safe materials. This project develops thermoplastic sandwich panels that meet the stringent fire safety requirements of naval vessels, without compromising structural performance or recyclability.

The project currently focuses on the application of commercially available flame-retardant additives in both the core and the skin layers of the thermoplastic panels. Coatings are excluded at this stage, although they are known to contribute positively to fire performance. This approach aims to deliver an initial safe and scalable solution (or solutions) for maritime applications.
