Ir. Rik Brouwer studied Aerospace Engineering at Delft University of Technology. From 1988 onward, he conducted research on materials within the faculty. In 1996, he became a project manager at the company Lightweight Structures, where he analysed mechanical loads and material properties for a wide range of products and applications. He developed more than 25 patents and publications related to the development of (fibre‑reinforced) materials.

For the past several years, he has been working for the ThermoPlastic composite Application Center (TPAC), part of Saxion University of Applied Sciences, where he conducts research into circular solutions for composites.
