PETfiber

Summary

Over 124 million kg of textile is burned annually in The Netherlands. More than 50% of the textiles are made of polyester fibers (polyethylene terephthalate, PET). Due to the fluctuation of the quality and decrease in viscosity recycling PET fibers is a challenge. During this project, together with the Smart Functional Materials group of Saxion new applications for fiber reinforced composites are investigated. Our partner Frankenhuis B.V. is the supplier of recycled textile fibers. Comptape B.V., a producer of fiber reinforced tapes, is interested in the reuse of PET fibers for their composite tapes.
